About Goodboy Atlas
Goodboy Atlas is a small, independent site of free calculators for everyday pet questions. Brand-neutral methodology. No medical claims. Just the math, the method, and the sources.
Made by Carl and Mochi
Hi, I'm Carl. Goodboy Atlas started because every time I tried to answer a simple numerical question about Mochi — a mixed-breed rescue — I'd land on either a food-brand calculator quietly pushing kibble, a generic listicle with no sources, or a 2019 Reddit thread written by someone with no veterinary background.
So I built the site I wished existed: every calculator shows its method, cites a real source, and the recommendations aren't biased by sponsor money. This site is ad-supported — that's what keeps it free for everyone. If you'd rather support Goodboy Atlas directly, the Buy Me a Coffee link in the footer goes to me, not a company. No accounts, no AI-generated filler. Just the math, the sources, and a real human (and Mochi) behind it.
The problem we're solving
If you've ever tried to answer a simple question about your dog or cat online — "how old is she in human years?", "how many calories should he eat?", "is this a normal walk length?" — you've probably seen the same pattern. Either:
- A pet-food brand calculator that funnels you toward their specific product, or
- A blog post with a generic answer and no citations, or
- A Wikipedia paragraph with the right number buried in two paragraphs of unrelated trivia.
We wanted one place that takes the question seriously: surfaces the math, lets you adjust the inputs, shows where the numbers come from, and doesn't tilt the recommendations toward a sponsor.
How we work
Each calculator on this site has the same structure:
- The tool above the fold, so you can get an answer immediately.
- An explanation of the method, citing the underlying veterinary or research source.
- Caveats and limits — what the formula doesn't account for, when to talk to a vet.
- An FAQ section answering the questions that come up most often.
We update calculators when the underlying veterinary consensus changes, which is rare. Most of this math is decades old and stable.
What we are not
We are not veterinarians. We are not a substitute for veterinary care. Every calculator on this site is an educational tool. If your pet is in pain, behaving abnormally, or you are worried, call your vet — that's what they are for.
Why ads, why no subscription
Goodboy Atlas is free and supported by display ads. We chose ads over a subscription because a pet calculator is a once-in-a-while utility — most visitors come here, get an answer, and don't come back for months. That's not a subscription product, and we didn't want to pretend it was.
We don't take food-brand sponsorships, affiliate fees, or content placements — but display ads through standard ad networks are open inventory. The content side is independent of the ad inventory. We will never tilt a calculator's math because a sponsor asked us to, or recommend a specific food brand because they paid us to.
If you'd rather see no ads, Buy Me a Coffee ☕ supports the site directly — that link goes to the founder, not a company.
